Upwork gets a bad reputation as being a race to the bottom sort of website. At times, it definitely can be just that. However, there are a few tips and tricks to getting clients that pay at or above the industry standard. This means that you can start to make some real money there, which is cool!

Time for a humblebrag.

In the last year or so I earned over 10 grand on Upwork alone (more on that here). And that is only on gigs paid through the Upwork system, I have earned ANOTHER 10k in the last 6 months from gigs that started on Upwork but moved off as we developed a positive relationship (following all Terms of Service, of course!).

So, in total, I have earned over $20,000 of business thanks to the Upwork platform. Not bad for writing less than 5 hours a week!

Ensure your profile is complete and professional
