Democrats Need to Pass Tougher Gun Laws, It is All On Them
Even if it means getting rid of the filibuster
The NRA spends in between $20 million and $50 million each presidential election cycle to advocate for gun rights. Almost 100% of these funds go either to support Republican candidates or to oppose Democratic candidates.
If you know anything about politics (and I am sure that you do;)) then you know that every donation is essentially a quid pro quo, especially when you are taking donations in the millions. Organizations like the NRA do not donate to candidates who don’t follow through on campaign promises.
So of course these representatives on the GOP side are reluctant to say anything bad about guns, it is political suicide. For a Republican candidate, an endorsement from the NRA is essentially all that you need to win a primary, especially if your opponent doesn't receive the same endorsement.
However, like many issues that the GOP deals with, the public doesn’t agree. While America is certainly a gun-loving nation, most people actually believe that only qualified individuals should be able to purchase a gun, and they should have to register that gun with the government.
