Good set of tips, I think that one of the hardest things for me (and many writers) is consistency. It can take years to build up the writing chops and the business acumen to do really well.

For me, as a long form copy writer, a huge revelation that I had is simple, if you want to make consistent money, you have to write for niches that will pay for writing.

My passion is education, but NOBODY is paying more than 100 bucks for a blog post on teaching or education reform. However, I lucked into writing insurance blogs and routinely make $350 per article...is it fun writing?

Absolutely not, it is grimy and technical, but it gives me a financial base to play with other passion projects.
