Increasing Minimum Wage Is Drowning American Business

Here is the only real solution to our problem

My fellow liberals, the time has come to admit the truth, raising the minimum to $15 an hour solves none of our problems.

However, it does cause many issues.

I am no economist, but it is easy to see some of these issues, even if from a superficial level. For one, a dollar in LA doesn’t equal a dollar in Kansas. There are vastly different costs and needs dependent on location. Unilaterally raising the minimum wage does not take this into account.

Another issue with raising the minimum wage is that it is incumbent on business owners and employers to foot the bill. These costs are passed to consumers which negates the positive impact of raising the minimum wage.

Many progressive allies got it in their head that minimum wage alone was supposed to support an individual or a family. This isn’t really the case. Think about your first job as a teenager. For me it was setting up for parties in parks for the city. Should I have expected support a family as a 16 year old by emptying trashcans and delivering charcoal grills? I don’t think so.

However, wage disparity exists and it difficult, if not impossible for families living in poverty to make ends meet.
