What follows is the first 500 words or so of a novel I am working on.

My questions for you:

  • Is this a story worth reading?
  • Would this opening entice you to read on?
  • Am I wasting my time?

I look forward to reading your feedback in the comments, be honest and pull no punches!

Here we go…

A fine mist of blood floated through the air, sprinkling a translucent red over the potted marigolds resting on the bar top by the door. Quentin stood on the counter at La Cantina Cantante with a sawed off 12 gauge in his right hand and a citrus juice reamer, from behind the bar, in his left. He leapt off the counter, his duster jacket opened like a parachute as he dropped in over to the fallen carcass on the floor. The carcass was still moving, inching towards the door, a worm in cowboy boots.

“Hola señor, where are you going?” Quentin asked with a Tex-Mex drawl.

The man was silent with the exception of a pulsating, high pitched, whistle that was coming from a small hole in his neck as he breathed out.
